I am a licensed clinical professional counselor with experience treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction and substance abuse as well as a variety of other issues. My approach is focused on helping clients balance self-acceptance and change, and working collaboratively to develop a broader understanding of oneself, and how to take positive steps forward. I enjoy working with clients to develop greater insight into where they are and where they would like to be, helping them improve relationships, careers, creative endeavors, and their overall ability to find clarity and a deep sense of meaning. I teach clients creative ways to connect with the wisest parts of themselves so they can progress in their lives with equanimity and confidence.
Generally, I view my work through the lens of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT helps to teach a balance between acceptance and change, leading to an ability to be psychologically flexible while remaining firmly centered and grounded.
I began my professional journey as a musician touring throughout the United States and beyond performing original music. I then transitioned into a spiritual, contemplative life, becoming a practicing Buddhist monk. After studying and practicing in Buddhist monasteries throughout Asia I completed a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adler University. I have professional experience working in intensive outpatient, community mental health, and private practice settings, working with clients with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction issues, as well as working with family and couples therapy models. I have also led numerous therapy groups and taught seminars on DBT to mental health clinicians and colleagues.
My experiences as an artist and as a monk have informed my therapeutic approach; I value creativity, spontaneity and a sense of play as well as mindfulness- the art of bringing one's attention to the present moment to live a more fulfilling and joyful life.
Although my approach combines DBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as Person-centered and Narrative Therapy approaches, I most highly value the therapeutic relationship, which I believe is the most powerful agent of change in the therapy process.
I am privileged to be a part of my client’s lives as I help them find clarity, joy and a deeper understanding of themselves.
