As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor my primary areas of focus are life transitions, anxiety, depression, as well as substance abuse/dependency. Through experience I have found that I am particularly effective in encouraging clients to unravel the narrative threads that make up their experiences, either to pull out buried details or make sense of their internal chaos. Also, as an non-binary individual I am also very comfortable working with individuals across the gender and sexuality spectrum.
My thinking is informed by person centered therapy and motivational interviewing. With that comes ideas of congruence, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and evoking the client’s own motivations for change. I enjoy working collaboratively with my clients to sort through their experiences through this clinical background. I value authenticity and an open dialogue, putting weight on the healing power of a genuine human connection. In working together we will use a creative, conversational approach to thinking through problems together.
From my own experience, both clinical and personal, I have learned how we develop coping strategies to navigate the world but oftentimes it can be difficult to step outside of those when they no longer fit. We may find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, complacent, or even having accepted unhappiness. Through the therapeutic relationship, we will work together to add new skills to your repertoire, while learning more about how behaviors and previous experiences play a role in your day to day life. Our work together rests on the idea that although challenges are a natural part of life, we move towards healing naturally when we feel understood by others and by ourselves.
In addition to my role as a therapist I enjoy writing/journaling, Dungeons & Dragons, story-based video games, and caring for my two cats. I believe it is important to use my knowledge and personal experiences to give tools and perspective to each of my clients, and I enjoy tailoring the therapeutic relationship to each individuals’ specific story and needs. My role is to help empower my clients to better understand their own story and to become the main character of their own lives.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
